“Matching is an absolute priority for Anchor, and for me, this is what fostering is really about.”

I joined Anchor Foster Care in 2016 as a Recruitment Officer (now Coordinator).  Before this, I had, over many years, worked for three other independent fostering agencies. Sadly, I became disillusioned with the lack of care when matching a child or young person to an appropriate carer/s – the focus was always monthly targets and finances.

The target-driven approach would lead to numerous placement breakdowns for children who needed stability and carers who lost faith in the agency they were fostering for.

When I started working for Anchor, it was like a breath of fresh air. They were not only a not for profit agency, but they really cared about providing safety, stability and hope for all children placed with our foster carers.  Matching is an absolute priority for Anchor, and we always prioritise the child/s needs and the carer/s skillset, and for me, this is what fostering is really about.
