Anchor Foster Care Raises Funds Through Dragon Boat Challenge

Dragon Boat Challenge

On Sunday 26th May 2019 Anchor Foster Care took part in the annual Charity Dragon Boat Challenge, Chatham Maritime, Kent.

Attended by Anchor Foster Care staff, looked-after children, foster carers, birth children and friends, the event aimed to raise both money and awareness of Foster Care Fortnight and the need for more foster carers in the UK.

Temperatures reached a balmy 23 degree high, but our 21 team ‘Anchor Away’ paddlers raced through the three heats, shaving our times down by six and five seconds respectively to achieve our final ‘fastest time’ of 1 minute 19.

Norma Rice, Anchor’s Children and Young People Support Worker, and Youth Events Organiser for Medway Sunlight Rotary sold a whopping 245 ‘Grand Dragon Draw’ raffle tickets on the day. Top prizes included a chauffeured vintage car ride and a meal for two, a family water sports experience, a distillery tour, and a PlayStation PS4.

Anchor will donate proceeds from the raffle to the Fostering Network and the Sunlight Medway Rotary Club.
