What types of placements are there?
Permanent / long term placements
We have a definite interest in providing placements for children/young people or sibling groups on a long term/permanent fostering basis, usually for the remainder of a child's/young person's minority.
Sibling group placements
In keeping with our desire to promote the child or young person ties with their birth families, Anchor welcomes sibling group placements where siblings are placed with one family.
Enhanced Placements
Some children or young people may require enhanced care as they may have very challenging behavioural tendencies as a result of very traumatic experiences. Anchor would seek to place them with carers who, together with Anchor's high level of support, which will meet their needs.
Emergency placementsAnchor provides a 24-hour telephone support service. Many foster carers are able to accept unforeseen emergency placements for individual children or sibling groups.
Short Term placements
Anchor foster carers undertake task centred work with children/young people and their families in situations where the purpose of a placement, and the intended duration, are explicit or can be estimated with relative accuracy as far as this is possible.
Bridging placements
Bridging placement generally forms part of a longer-term plan for a child or young person and can sometimes be up to two years duration.
In such placements Anchor's foster carers work with children/young people and their families toward rehabilitation, or prepare children/young people for joining adoptive or long term/permanent fostering families or for moving to a semi-independent or an independent living accommodation.
Parent and child placements
This type of placement is provided to a mother or father and their child/ren, where foster carers can provide support and guidance to the parent(s) and help them develop or assess parenting skills.
Unaccompanied asylum seeking children
These are young people or children who are seeking asylum in the UK for various reasons. Some of them would have experienced traumatic events in their lives. They will need sympathy, understanding and an awareness of their needs coupled with a commitment to try and meet their needs.
Respite placement
Placements are provided to offer birth of foster families a break from the caring task. This can be for a day, a week or whatever period is required.
