About Us

Who we are

We are a 'not for profit' independent fostering agency, which was founded in 2002 by a couple of directors who had a desire to provide the right kind of support to foster carers to enable them to provide a consistent level of care for children and young people who could not live with their birth parents. The founders are both qualified social workers, one with extensive experience in social care for looked after children.

The intention was to attract and recruit people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities who could offer a positive experience to children and young people from different ethnicities, backgrounds and abilities.

Children and young people who have had traumatic experiences are likely to make considerable demands on foster carers. However, the level of training and support offered by Anchor Foster Care Services enables foster carers to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to cope.

We specialise in working with difficult to place children and young people who may have suffered different forms of abuse. We also provide care for unaccompanied asylum seeking children, children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. These carers bring their own experience of deafness and are able to use these experiences to help children and young people reach their potential despite their disability. We have carers trained in the management of oxygen for children that are oxygen dependant. A family has had their home adapted to cater for a wheel chair user with a wet room. We also run a therapeutic service provided by a selective number of our carers.

Stepping Stones

Our latest programme designed to complete what we started with our young people by providing a staged carefully managed programme designed to ensure that our young people transition to adulthood and independence successfully.

Personal Advisors

We are able to provide personal advisors to young people leaving care, offer help with all the logistics of having to stand on ones own two feet.

Contact Services

We provide contact facilities in a warm friendly and yet professional place for families to meet with their children when necessary.

Our Objectives

We work in partnership with local authorities and other professionals to provide approved foster parents on an emergency, short or long term basis.

Anchor seeks to offer these, often troubled children and young people family experiences with carers who are patient, understanding, kind and are willing to work in partnership with other professionals and birth families who are willing to continue to increase their knowledge and improve their knowledge base for the fostering task through training, support groups, and reflection on practice and open to constructive criticism.

Our carers are supported by a team of experienced, sensitive and caring professionals, some of whom have been foster carers before and have had first hand experience of the fostering task. Regular visits, ongoing training and 24/7 telelphone support and visits where needed to enable carers to think and talk through issues in time of crisis. Our aim is o develop carers who are resilient skilled and committed to the fostering task by providing training, space to reflect, support groups and personalised supervision by qualified experienced social workers. Input by psychotherapists where necessary to give insight to behaviour and management of the same.

Our Philosophy

Our primary aim is to provide effective services that will enhance the life chances and opportunities of children and young people in care by ensuring effective achievement of the five outcomes.

We seek to attract people from diverse backgrounds, enabling us to provide a positive experience for children and young people from different ethnicities, nationalities and abilities.

These aims are achieved by working in partnership with local authorities, parents, children/young people and allied professionals in the social care field.
